Former BDA section officer gets three-year jail term in bribery case

Bhubaneswar, August 14: A former section officer of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has been awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5000 in connection with the transfer of ownership of a house.

The Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, found Tarini Charan Das, former Section Officer of the Allotment Section of BDA, guilty in the case and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine.

Das, who has since retired from service, was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance in a bribery case under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

According to the Vigilance case, Das had demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹5,000 from an applicant in connection with the transfer of ownership of a house.

Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance is set to move the competent authority for stoppage of the pensionof Tarini Charan Das.
