Bhubaneswar, Oct 4:The Odisha government in a first, announced financial assistance worth Rs 7.140 crore to as many as 1,085 antique Durga Puja Committees on Saturday.
The Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department informed it.
According to a press communiqué from the Odisha Culture department, the dedicated financial assistance will be allocated to selected Durga Puja Committee based on their antiquity.
The Heritage Puja Committees will be assisted with Rs 1.1 Lakh each.Thus, an amount of Rs 2.171 crore will be provided to as many as 215 selected Durga Puja Committees.
Similarly, the Puja Committes that are of more than 75 years old would get Rs 75,000 each as financial assistance.As many as 197 Durga Puja Committees will avail the assistance worth Rs 1.4775 crore in toto.
The third category of Puja Committees that have been organizing Durga Puja since last 50 years will avail financial assistance worth Rs 50,000 each. As many as 673 Durga Puja committees, coming under the category, will receive the grant.
