Officials Crack Down on Unsafe Food Following Diarrhea Outbreak
In response to a recent diarrhea outbreak in the Bhuban area of Dhenkanal, food safety authorities have initiated a stringent crackdown on unhygienic food vendors. A raid conducted on Wednesday by the District Food Safety Officer, Lopamudra Nayak, resulted in the seizure of 90 kg of stale food from various shops and stalls in the Bhuban market.
During the inspection, officials identified four food stalls that were selling unsafe and stale items. These establishments were promptly sealed, and a collective fine of Rs 17,000 was imposed on the vendors. As part of the comprehensive public health response, water samples were also collected from two locations to be sent for laboratory testing to determine their quality and potential contamination.
The Food Safety Department has stated that these raids are a critical measure to prevent the further spread of the waterborne disease. According to Officer Nayak, the primary goal is to ensure that only safe and hygienic food is sold to the public. She issued a stern warning that strict action will be taken against any vendor found selling stale or adulterated food products. Alongside the enforcement actions, the department is also actively working to raise public awareness about the importance of consuming safe food and water.
