Cuttack, July 29: Rising floodwaters from the Mahanadi River have inundated the Bhattarika Temple in Odisha's Cuttack district. The temple premises have been submerged, and with the water level continuing to rise, temple authorities are preparing to relocate the deity to a safer location, sources reported on Wednesday.
Knee-deep water has already entered the Maa Bhattarika Temple, with floodwater encroaching upon the sanctum sanctorum. In response, the temple's servitors and managing committee are making arrangements to shift the deity to a flood shelter center at Ratnagiri.
The flooding is a result of incessant rainfall in the upper regions of the Mahanadi River, which has led to widespread inundation across several districts. Concerns are growing over a potential flash flood situation in the river's lower catchment areas, exacerbating the impact on local communities and infrastructure.
