Sambalpur, August 6: In view of flood management, at least 20 gates of Hirakud Dam in Odisha have been sluiced on so far.
Hirakud dam authorities, on Saturday, opened eight more sluice gates of the reservoir as the water level of the dam continues to increase following rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi system.
While the inflow into the dam stands at 4,88,624 cusecs, 3,02,189 cusecs of water is being released through the dam. The water level of the reservoir stands at 621.06 ft.
On the other hand, the Water Resources Department and the Special Relief Commission authorities are on alert to tackle the floodlike situation caused in the lower catchments of the Mahanadi.
