Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: The festive spirit of Diwali took a tragic turn in various parts of Odisha on Sunday, as various incidents of injuries and fire outbreaks due to firecrackers.
A massive fire erupted at a tent house godown in Kali Mandir Sahi in Baripada on Sunday evening, causing extensive damage to items valued at several lakh rupees. The fire is suspected to have been triggered by a sky lantern.
In Jajpur district, specifically in Byasanagar and Korei localities, six people, including three children and a woman, sustained critical burn injuries while engaging in firecracker celebrations.
A 12-year-old boy faced severe injuries in Nuapada district at Bhela village, where a mishap occurred while he was bursting firecrackers. The boy, using a steel glass for the activity, experienced an explosion that resulted in critical injuries.
Although a fire engulfed part of an apartment building in Sambalpur's Khetrajpur area, no injuries were reported yet. The fire on the third floor of Shyama Vatika apartment was caused due to a Diwali rocket landing inside the building.
In Bhubaneswar, over 100 individuals injured during Diwali firecrackers celebrations. The injured were shifted to Capital Hospital. A dedicated team at the hospital was formed to provide special treatment for the injured.
