Fire mishap in a shop: 7 members of a family charred to death in Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 6: In a tragic incident,  as many as seven members of a family, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed after a fire broke out in a double-storey shop-cum-residential structure in Mumbai on Sunday. 

The fatal fire mishap took place in the Chembur area in the morning.

The victims are identified as Paris Gupta (7), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Gupta (39), Prem Gupta (30), and Narendra Gupta (10). Details of two other victims are yet to be ascertained. 

Police sources said, an electrical fire was sparked in a two- storeyed building which was triggered from a shop in the ground floor reportedly from shot –circuit. Suddenly the fire spread the entire building and engulfed the area with smoke and flames. With no way out, 7 members of a family were charred to death.

On being informed, f ire fighting teams and police rushed to the spot and contained the flames after hour-long dousing operation.

The remnants of the bodies were recovered from the debris and sent for postmortem.

A case was later registered with the Chembur Police as a part of  further nvestigation into the matter.
