New Delhi, November 24: Former Chief Justice of India, B R Gavai, made a remarkable gesture on Monday, setting a new precedent by leaving behind his official Mercedes-Benz car for his successor, Justice Surya Kant, following the latter’s swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Justice Gavai, who retired on November 23, arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in his official car. However, after the ceremony, he opted to return home in his personal vehicle, ensuring that the official car remained available for his successor.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Justice Gavai’s thoughtful act ensured that the designated vehicle for the Chief Justice would be readily available for Justice Surya Kant's commute to the Supreme Court.
