Everest Climbing Records Shattered As Two Elite Nepali Guides Scale World Highest Peak Again

Nepali mountaineering legends conquer world highest peak, resetting global records.

Historic Double Triumph on Everest

Two legendary Nepali mountain guides stood on top of the world on Sunday, resetting their respective male and female global benchmarks for the highest number of successful ascents. Professional guide Kami Rita Sherpa reached the 8,849-meter pinnacle at 10:12 a.m. local time, securing his 32nd successful lifetime summit. Hours earlier, at 9:30 a.m., veteran mountaineer Lhakpa Sherpa conquered the peak for her 11th time, widening her gap as the leading female climber in international mountaineering history.

Elite Sherpas Rewrite Global Feats

Officials from the Nepal Department of Tourism verified both successful ascents, which took place during the highly competitive spring climbing season. The 56-year-old Kami Rita, widely recognized by his peers as the "Everest Man," guided an international team under the banner of 14 Peaks Expedition. His climbing partner in history, 52-year-old Lhakpa Sherpa, holds the distinct honor of being the first Nepali woman to successfully scale and descend the mountain back in 2000.

Historically, native Sherpa communities have evolved from regional high-altitude porters into elite international expedition organizers, creating a multi-million dollar adventure tourism industry that remains a vital financial lifeline for Nepal's economy.

Overcrowding Worries

Government administrators noted that these exceptional milestones inject fresh momentum into the outdoor sports sector, emphasizing safety and structured route management. These feats coincide with an unprecedented surge in peak visitation. Records show that local authorities granted 492 expedition permits this season, placing nearly one thousand individual adventurers and local guides on the slopes simultaneously. Experienced field observers warn that extreme traffic bottlenecks near the Death Zone could elevate physical dangers if unpredictable weather limits the safe windows for summit attempts later this month.
