Kendrapara, July 30: In a shocking case of impersonation and theft, Kendrapara police have arrested six individuals, including a 20-year-old engineering student, for looting the home of a retired doctor by posing as vigilance officials.
The incident occurred on July 10 at Oldhi village, under the jurisdiction of Derabish police station. The accused allegedly entered the residence of 80-year-old Dr. Jalil Ahmad Khan, pretending to be vigilance officers conducting a raid on his assets, claiming they were disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The gang conducted a mock search operation during which they stole ₹1.5 lakh in cash and approximately 500 grams of gold jewelry. Before leaving, they falsely warned Dr. Khan to report to the district vigilance office in Kendrapara with proof of income and asset legitimacy, making the entire operation appear legitimate.
Dr. Khan, who had retired two decades ago from a government medical college in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, had returned to his native village to continue serving the local community. He is a respected figure in the area, making the incident even more alarming.
A special police squad formed to investigate the crime cracked the case using call detail records (CDR) and CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
The arrested individuals have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 310 (dacoity) and Section 333 (house trespass). They were presented before a local court, which rejected their bail applications, and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
