Bhubaneswar, September 2: In a major food safety enforcement drive, officials conducted simultaneous inspections at several food business establishments (FBOs), including popular outlets such as KFC, Domino’s Pizza, Burger King and Wow! Momo, across three zones of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday.
The enforcement drive covered several locations, including Jayadev Vihar, Infosys, Suryanagar, Jagamara, ITER, Fire Station and Kalinga Nagar.
During the inspections, officials found stale and expired food items, including raw meat and expired raw materials, stored and intended for use by the establishments. Approximately 60 kg of stale and expired food products were seized and subsequently destroyed to prevent them from being used or served to consumers.
As part of the action, officials also issued 10 notices under Sections 34(1) and 36(b) of the Food Safety and Standards Act to food business operators found violating food safety provisions.
The enforcement action is aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety norms and protecting consumers from the risks associated with the sale or use of stale, expired and unsafe food products. Officials indicated that inspections of food establishments would continue to ensure adherence to prescribed food safety standards.
