Tesla to Open First India Showroom in Mumbai
After years of anticipation and overcoming significant hurdles, Elon Musk's electric vehicle company, Tesla, is set to open its first showroom in India on July 15. The "experience centre" will be located in Mumbai, marking a major milestone for the automaker's entry into the world's third-largest auto market.
The showroom is situated in the Maker Maxity building in the prime business hub of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This move follows an extensive search for suitable locations in both Mumbai and New Delhi, signaling Tesla's serious commitment to the Indian market.
A Long-Awaited Arrival
Tesla's entry into India has been a topic of discussion for years, facing delays due to challenges related to high import taxes and local manufacturing requirements. The opening of this physical showroom represents a significant step forward, moving the company's plans from speculation to reality.
According to registration documents, Tesla has signed a five-year lease for the 4,003-square-foot space. The company is also expected to open a second showroom in New Delhi's Aerocity in the near future.
The launch of the Mumbai experience centre is a clear indication that Tesla is ready to engage directly with Indian consumers, offering them a firsthand look at its innovative electric vehicles.
