Elephant injured after being struck by train in Sundargarh

Rajgangpur, Aug 4: An elephant has sustained severe injuries after being struck by a train near Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district. The incident took place between Sonakhani and Sagara railway stations, falling under the Rajgangpur forest range.

Preliminary reports indicate that the elephant was crossing the railway track when it was struck by the train, resulting in significant injuries. Railway and forest officials were promptly alerted and have arrived at the scene to investigate the matter. The elephant’s condition is reported to be critical, and rescue operations are currently underway.

A rescue team, along with the Rourkela DFO (Divisional Forest Officer), has reached the location. However, the challenging terrain, with hills on both sides of the railway track, is making the rescue operation difficult.

As of the latest updates, efforts to save the elephant are still underway.
