Dhenkanal, Sept. 19: An elephant calf died in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.
Dhenkanal Town Forest Range officials recovered the calf’s carcass from a paddy field, on being informed by the locals.
Sources said, a few farmers of Taladanga village under the Motanga police limit spotted the carcass of an elephant in a muddy paddy field and informed the Meramandali Forest Section officials. A team of forest officials picked the carcass from the spot and sent it for post-mortem.
Following this, an investigation was initiated in this connection to ascertain the reason behind the pachyderm’s death. However, the circumstances reveal that the calf might have been either died after sticking to the mud for a long time or due to the struggle among the elephants.
