Baripada, June 18: Once again, a tragic incident involving a tusker attack has claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured. This unfortunate event occurred in Ukasola village under the Morada block, within the forest range of Rasgovindpur.
According to reports, around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, an elephant entered Ukasol village under Nalagaja Panchayat of Rasgovindpur range. The elephant broke into a house and dragged out an elderly woman, Nagini Hansda, who was asleep inside. It then trampled her brutally, resulting in her leg being severed from her body and her internal organs being exposed.
Upon receiving the news, forest officials and staff from Rasgovindpur reached the location and sent the body of Nagini Hansda for postmortem to PRM Medical College and Hospital.
Additionally, in the nearby village of Sukhilakhali, a man named Bada Murmu was seriously injured in the elephant attack. While he was sleeping on the veranda of his house, two elephants from a herd of about 25 grabbed him with their trunks and violently trampled him. Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to drive away the elephant herd. They immediately rescued Bada and admitted him to the Rasgovindpur hospital for treatment.
It is important to mention that almost throughout the year, elephant disturbances have been increasing in the Morada and Rasgovindpur blocks under the Rasgovindpur forest range in Mayurbhanj district. Deaths due to elephant attacks have become a common occurrence. With persistent elephant threats year-round, local residents are living in constant fear, and for farmers, agriculture has now turned into a source of dread rather than livelihood.
