Education for all: Odisha CM Majhi for free textbooks to students from Class I-X

Bhubaneswar, August 21: In a revolutionary step towards unversalisation of Education in Odisha, provison of free textbooks will be extended for students from Class I to Class X.

It was decided in a high-level meeting chaired by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday.

During the meeting the CM said that free textbooks were earlier being supplied to all students from Class I-Class VIII whereas SC/ST students were also availing it in Class IX and X. 

According to the Chief Minister, all students from STD I to STD X will now be provided free textbooks during their studies.

While reviewing the teaching-learnign process & Students’- teachers’ ratio, the CM underlined the recruitment of teachers and hence asked the Education Department to initiate process for appointment of as many as 44,433 teachers within a period of three years.

Apart from it, the CM laid emphasis on regularization of primary teachers appointed on Schematic basis.

In order to strengthen education beginning from Primary to higher secondary level, the CM desired unification of the existing Board of Secondary Education and Council of Higher Secondary Education, constituting a new one.

Among other key resolutions, the CM urged the authorities to appoint an ANM or a Multipurpose Health Workers(MPHW) in a school hostel with at least 300 enrollments.
