New Delhi, May 11: Nishant Pitti, Founder and Chairman of EaseMyTrip, has raised serious concerns about potential national security risks stemming from travel platforms with significant Chinese ownership, warning that such companies may be accessing sensitive Indian passport data.
In a post on social media platform X, Pitti urged Indian travellers to consider the ownership of travel apps before booking. “Before booking your travel, ask — is the platform truly aligned with Bharat, or majority-owned by foreign regimes hostile to us?” he wrote, tagging key government departments including the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of External Affairs, and Ministry of Home Affairs.
“This isn’t just about business — it’s a national security issue,” he emphasized, alleging that some popular platforms with Chinese ties may have access to Indian passport information.
Pitti’s statement came in support of a post by Rikant Pitti, CEO and Co-Founder of EaseMyTrip, who echoed similar concerns. Rikant highlighted that EaseMyTrip has consistently taken stands rooted in national interest — including being the only Indian online travel agency to suspend bookings to the Maldives for over a year amid strained diplomatic relations.
“After the Pahalgam terror attack, while many remained silent, we were once again the first to issue a travel advisory against Turkey and Azerbaijan for their vocal support to Pakistan,” Rikant Pitti stated. “We urged Indian travellers to avoid non-essential travel to these nations.”
He further noted that EaseMyTrip’s decisions are guided by the safety, values, and sentiments of Indian travellers. “As a proud Indian company, our actions reflect our commitment to national interest and traveller well-being,” he said.
