Cuttack, March 16: At least 10 people lost their lives and several others sustained serious burn injuries after a major fire broke out at the Trauma Care Centre of SCB Medical College and Hospital late Sunday night.

According to reports, the fire spread rapidly inside the Trauma Care Centre, triggering panic among patients and attendants. On receiving information, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to control the blaze.

After prolonged efforts, the fire was brought under control and several people were rescued from the building. However, by then more than 10 people had reportedly died in the incident, while many others were critically injured. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, including Capital Hospital, for advanced treatment.

Though the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest that the blaze might have been triggered due to an electrical short circuit.

Meanwhile, after receiving information about the incident, Mohan Charan Majhi visited the spot along with senior officials and reviewed the situation. The Chief Minister has ordered a judicial probe into the incident.

He also announced compensation of ₹25 lakh each for the families of the deceased and directed authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
