Five Diwali days and what they mean
Day 1: Dhanteras
People worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber for wealth and success.
Many buy new things such as gold, silver, or jewelry.
Day 2: Naraka Chaturdashi (Choti Diwali)
Also called Choti Diwali, this day celebrates Lord Krishna’s win over the demon Narakasura.
Day 3: Diwali
The return of Lord Rama, Mata Sita, and Lakshman to Ayodhya symbolizes good winning over evil.
Homes light lamps, appeal with rangoli designs, and decorate with lights. In the evening, people pray to Lakshmi and Ganesh.
Day 4: Govardhan Puja
This day honors Govardhan Parvat. Legend says Lord Krishna lifted a mountain to save people from Indra’s storm.
Day 5: Bhai Dooj
The festival ends with brothers and sisters celebrating their special bond.
