Nabarangpur, Nov 10: Tension ran high in Nabarangpur AXIS bank branch on Thursday over returning of 14 Rs 500 counterfeit notes to a customer, who had deposited Rs 13,090 on Wednesday as loan installment.
According to reports, a five-member group of Padalguda village under Nandahandi block had availed a loan of Rs 2 lakh from Nabarangpur AXIS bank branch. The group has been depositing Rs 13,090 installment every month for the loan repayment.
Group member Rajanirani Rao's son deposited the installment money in the bank on Wednesday around 2 pm.
On Wednesday at around 8.30 am, the bank employee who had received the money asked Rajanirani to visit the bank and told her that 14 Rs 500 notes deposited by her were found to be counterfeit. The bank employee threatened her and took Rs 7000.
Later, Rajanirani informed the matter to other group members who gathered at the bank questioning why the employee did not check the notes at the time of deposit.
Later, the bank returned the original notes and took back the alleged counterfeit notes.
Bank's relationship manager Arjun Kumar Jena said, the fake notes will be destroyed and the concerned employee who received the money without verification will deposit the amount.
