Bhubaneswar, June 14: The diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur district has turned alarming, with the death toll rising to five and more than 1,500 people reportedly infected. In response, the Central government has dispatched three expert teams to assess the ground situation, as health officials confirm the presence of cholera in some affected areas.
To contain the outbreak, the Jajpur district administration has cancelled Raja festival holidays for all government employees. Community feasts, traditionally held during the three-day festival, have also been prohibited.
“Given the diarrhoea outbreak in various parts of the district, the holidays from June 14 to 16 are hereby cancelled. All government offices in Jajpur district will remain open, and the services of employees will be utilised as required during this health emergency,” stated an official order issued by the district collector.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as new areas report fresh cases, prompting intensified public health measures.
