Hannover (Germany), Sep 2: His name is 'Dhanush'. His parents perhaps believed that their son would excel in shooting one day, which turned into reality. The reason being in several Indian languages 'Dhanush' means 'bow'.
Well, not to elaborate that bow and arrow are linked to archery, an art of shooting the enemy, or the target with the arrow.
But Dhanush Srikanth is not an archer, but an air rifle shooter.
He toppled the world record in both qualification and final to win the Men's Air Rifle Gold in style at the second World Deaf Shooting Championship, here on Sunday.
But he was not the only one to excel in Germany. It was a clean sweep of medals by Indian shooters as Shourya Saini and Mohamed Vania as well. The two followed Dhanush to bag the Silver and Bronze medals respectively. The trio had finished in that order in qualification as well.
Similarly, Indian excelled in women's event as well. In women’s air rifle, Mira Biatovszki of Hungary shot a world record 247.8 to beat the Indian shooters Mahit Sandhu and Natasha Joshi to the gold. Mahit who won the silver had shot a world record 627.7 in qualification.
Moreover, Priyesha Deshmukh shot the second best qualification score of 623.3 but placed eighth in the final, while Natasha Joshi did well to climb to the bronze medal.
It can be recalled that India had earlier won the women’s air pistol gold through Anuya Prasad, apart from clinching the silver and bronze medals in men’s air pistol through Abhinav Deshwal and Shubham Vashist.
Well, with Indian shooters excelling in Paris (in both Olympics Games 2024 and Paralympics 2024) and now also dominating the World Deaf Shooting Championship in Germany depicts India's excellence in shooting.
