Dhenkanal, Aug 29: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband following a dispute over money received under the Odisha government’s Subhadra Yojana in Dhenkanal district.

The incident reportedly took place late Friday night in Indipur village under the jurisdiction of Dhenkanal Sadar police station. The deceased has been identified as Kousalya Pradhan.

According to preliminary information, Kousalya’s husband allegedly assaulted her with a wooden stick and a crowbar during an argument. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.

After the alleged killing, the accused reportedly attempted to conceal the crime by burying his wife’s body in a septic tank behind their house.

Acting on information received from villagers, Dhenkanal Sadar police reached the spot on Saturday and recovered the body. A case has been registered, and the accused husband has been arrested.

Dhenkanal Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Priyabrata Das confirmed the arrest and said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
