The roadmap envisions IITs spearheading India’s scientific and societal advancement by 2047, in alignment with PM Modi’s vision of a Samriddh, Viksit, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, Pradhan wrote, "Pleased to chair the 56th IIT Council Meeting to take stock of the academic progress and chart the roadmap for the next 25 years, particularly for making our IITs more inclusive, research-driven, aligned to the needs of the 21st century and how these prestigious institutions will lead India's scientific, technological and societal progress by 2047 in sync with the strategic goals outlined by Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji during his Independence Day address."

He described the IITs as “the crowning jewels of our higher education system” and emphasized their pivotal role in realizing the vision of a Samriddh, Viksit, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Earlier on August 20, Pradhan hailed the passage of the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in Parliament as a “historic milestone.”

This followed the Lok Sabha’s approval on August 19 of a bill to establish an Indian Institute of Management in Guwahati.

Amid opposition uproar, Pradhan stated that the IIM (Amendment) Bill, 2025 seeks to further amend the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017 to establish a new Indian Institute of Management at Guwahati in Assam, a key hub of the North-Eastern region.

The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 18, during protests by the opposition demanding a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.

This will be the second IIM in the North East and the 22nd in the country. The permanent campus will be located at Palasbari, with IIM Ahmedabad as the mentoring institution. Following IIM Meghalaya, Assam has now been allotted its second IIM by the Union government.
