
New Delhi, Oct 11: With the frequent drone activities over the Puri Jagannath Temple which was earlier declared as a no-fly zone, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), on Saturday, declared the Shree Jagannath Temple area a ‘Red Zone’.
With the recent announcement, the ‘Red Zone’ tag on Puri Jagannath Temple will continue till three years i.e up to September 25, 2028.
The restriction will be applicable for flying manned aircrafts, unmanned aircrafts even remote controlled drones, the DGCA’s restriction said.
Welcoming the DGCA’s resolve, Puri SP Prateek Singh said, "The DGCA has declared the Puri Srimandir and its adjacent areas as a Red Zone.Now, no aerial objects including drones can be flown in the specified areas.”
Apart from it, the DGCA has earmarked the Red Zone on the airspace map, marking the temple’s surroundings as a high-security zone, the SP said.
“Meanwhile, we seized a drone yesterday and also registered a case against its operator under Aircraft Act, as our special aerial device traced out its movements within the No-flying Zone”, the SP added.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Admin also greeted the DGCA’s announcement, meant for robust safety & security of the 12th century shrine.
