Jajpur, Oct 14: The Navratri rituals of Maa Biraja, the presiding deity of Jajpur, have begun, drawing a large number of devotees to the famous shrine.
Early in the morning, the goddess was ritually bathed with sacred water from the Baitarani River. Following the rituals, devotees gathered in large numbers for a glimpse of the goddess’s face and the opportunity to touch her feet.
Maa Biraja is being worshipped every day with the traditional Shodasha Upachara, a set of 16 ceremonial offerings and rituals.
On the fourth day of Navratri, devotees were seen standing in long queues behind barricades, patiently waiting for darshan. People from far-flung areas have been visiting the temple to seek the blessings of the goddess.
According to popular belief, devotees who touch Maa Biraja’s feet and have her darshan during Navratri are absolved of the sins accumulated over millions of lifetimes.
Meanwhile, every afternoon, the goddess’s ceremonial chariot, known as the Vijaya Ratha, circumambulates the temple premises. Maa Biraja also blesses devotees by appearing on the chariot, making the Navratri celebrations even more special for the faithful.
