Rayagada, May 14: Voters of 22 villages of three Odisha districts did not exercise their franchise in the first phase election on Monday.
Over 2400 voters of 22 villages of Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput districts did not vote due to unavailability of basic amenities like motorable road, drinking water, forest land right and school in their area.
Residents of 17 villages in Raighar block of Nabarangpur district boycotted the poll despite several attempts by government officials to involve them in the voting process.
Similarly, three villages – Kandhachampia, Karnipadu and Dangupadu under Bissam Cuttack Assembly constituency boycotted the election in Rayagada district.
Nobody out of the 452 voters of the three villages came to polling station at Kandhachampia to cast vote. The polling officials waited till end of the polling time returned empty handed.
As many as 89 voters of Maudiguda village of Gadishesakhala panchayat of the block did not exercise their franchise protesting against government apathy.
In Koraput district, all 176 voters of Paduguda village under Dasamantapur block boycotted polling due to lack of basic amenities.
