Bhubaneswar, May 22: A depression is set to form over Bay of Bengal by Friday. It is likely to intensify into a deep depression and bring heavy rain in parts of Odisha, the IMD said.
The probability of a cyclone is still not clear. The picture on the cyclone will emerge only after the system is formed, it added.
A low pressure area under the influence of a cyclonic circulation will be formed over southwest Bay of Bengal by May 22. The low pressure area is likely to initially move northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by Friday morning.
Rainfall activity will take place under its influence at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Cuttack on Friday.
Similarly, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur and Keonjhar districts on Saturday.
There has been no prediction so far regarding formation of cyclone. Whether a cyclone will be formed or not can be known only after the system is formed, said weather expert Uma Shankar Das.
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over central Bay of Bengal from May 23 and over North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into central Bay of Bengal from May 23 and into North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards. Fishermen who were out at sea are advised to return to the coast before May 23.
