Dayal Gangwar faces departmental action; Government seeks draft chargesheet from DGP

Bhubaneswar, July 1: Suspended IPS officer Dayal Gangwar is set to face departmental disciplinary proceedings, with the Odisha government initiating the process against him. The Home Department has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to submit a draft chargesheet, paving the way for formal action.

Gangwar came under the scanner following the death of constable Soumyaranjan of Balianta, a case that sparked widespread controversy. In the wake of the allegations, the state government had placed the senior IPS officer under suspension pending further proceedings.

According to official sources, the proposed disciplinary action stems from allegations linked to the Balianta constable's death. Soumyaranjan's parents had accused Gangwar of assigning their son to personal work and subjecting him to prolonged mental harassment. They alleged that the constable had been under severe psychological stress due to the treatment meted out to him by the senior officer.

With the government now seeking the draft chargesheet from the DGP, the disciplinary process against Gangwar has formally moved to the next stage.
