New York [US], June 29: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama is set to be discharged from a hospital on Saturday following a successful knee surgery in the United States.
In a brief online update on X, Dalai Lama's personal physician, Dr. Tsetan D. Sadutshang, and the Secretary to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Taklha, shared details about the leader's condition post-surgery. "Dalai Lama's knee surgery this morning was very successful, and His Holiness is now resting in his hospital room. His condition is stable," they reported.
Dr. Sadutshang further assured that there were no complications with the treatment. "There was no problem at all. His Holiness is ready to take his lunch right now. He will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow," he said. He also praised the hospital staff, stating, "All the doctors and nurses are providing the highest standard of care to His Holiness. The staff here are highly dedicated to giving their best services."
Emphasizing the quality of care, Dr. Sadutshang added, "This is the best hospital for knee surgery in the US, and the orthopedic surgeons are the best in the country. Therefore, please feel at ease, everyone."
The Dalai Lama arrived in New York on Monday after a brief stop in Zurich, Switzerland, where he was warmly welcomed by members of the Tibetan community and his well-wishers. Before heading to the US for his knee surgery, the Dalai Lama had departed from Dharamshala for Delhi.
In Zurich, he received a traditional Tibetan welcome at his hotel, where his well-wishers and guests watched him greet an old friend as he walked through the lobby. Hundreds of Tibetans and devotees also gathered in the streets to pay obeisance to the spiritual leader.
