Cyclone Arnab: Odisha govt accelerates relief and rescue operations

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari today conducted a comprehensive review of the flood situation, directing the officials to speed up the relief and rescue operations in the state.

Following the serious situation in Ganjam and Gajapati districts caused by sudden flooding following heavy rain due to cyclone Arnab, the Revenue Minister emphasised that the administration must reach every affected person and ensure the timely delivery of all necessary services and assistance.

He directly monitored rescue and relief operations throughout the day through virtual interactions from the Control Room of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office.

He assured the affected people that the State Government and the entire administrative machinery stood firmly by their side. He appealed to the public to remain calm, cooperate with the administration and prioritise their safety.

The Revenue Minister has been in regular telephonic contact with the Ministers, senior officers and local public representatives deployed in the affected districts to obtain updates on the ground situation.

In locations where strong water currents have prevented teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) from reaching affected people, aerial evacuation operations have been undertaken to move them to safer places. In the vulnerable areas of Ganjam district, people are being evacuated in phases using Coast Guard helicopters. Cooked food, drinking water and other essential arrangements have been ensured for those affected.
