Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), October 29: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday undertook an extensive field visit to cyclone-affected coastal districts to assess crop damage, inspect inundated agricultural lands and review ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures, an official said.

Naidu left for Cheyyeru in Katrenikona mandal of Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district to assess the impact of Cyclone Arnab on the region.

As part of the visit, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of waterlogged agricultural fields and damaged crops across the Krishna, West Godavari and Konaseema regions. The survey covered severely affected areas, including Nimmakuru, Pamarru, Bantumilli, Narsapuram, Palakollu, Amalapuram and Katrenikona.

Naidu is also scheduled to interact with affected farmers at Vetlapalem to obtain first-hand information about crop losses and review the assistance required to help them recover from the damage.

He will further visit a rehabilitation camp at Gachakayalapora to inspect the arrangements for displaced families, including food distribution, healthcare facilities and the provision of relief materials. The Chief Minister is expected to interact with cyclone victims taking shelter at the camp.

Earlier, on October 28, Naidu announced a series of financial assistance and relief measures for people affected by the cyclone. Addressing the media at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre at the state Secretariat, he outlined the government's response to the storm and said he would visit affected areas in Konaseema and West Godavari districts to assess the damage.

The Chief Minister said he had written to the Centre on Wednesday seeking assistance for cyclone-related losses. He also briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the intensity of the cyclone and its impact on Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu said a preliminary damage assessment would be submitted to the Centre, followed by a comprehensive report detailing the extent of the losses and the assistance required.

He noted that coconut plantations and other horticultural crops had suffered damage and said the government would assess agricultural and horticultural losses to determine the compensation and support needed by farmers.

As part of the relief package, families whose houses were inundated would receive 25 kg of rice. Weavers and fishermen would be provided 50 kg of rice, along with one kilogram each of onions, cooking oil and red gram dal.

The government would also provide financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per person to eligible affected individuals, Naidu said.

In addition, the Chief Minister announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of people who lost their lives due to the cyclone.

The state government is continuing its assessment of the damage and relief requirements in the affected districts, with a focus on supporting displaced families, restoring livelihoods and extending assistance to farmers whose crops and plantations have been damaged.
