Cyclone Alert: Odisha Govt gears up to maintain essential commodity supply chain

Bhubaneswar, October 26, 2026: In view of the possible impact of a cyclone in the state, the Odisha Government has taken necessary steps to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities for consumers. The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has initiated measures to ensure that essential goods remain available to consumers at affordable prices.

Principal Secretary of the department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, has issued necessary instructions in this regard. Field officials have also been directed to take strict action against black marketing and unscrupulous traders.

According to available information, prices of various pulses, edible oil, sugar, potatoes and onions in major markets across the state have remained largely stable compared to the previous week. Departmental field officials are conducting daily inspections to monitor the purchase and selling prices of various essential commodities.

Vegetable prices are expected to decline in the coming days as locally produced vegetables arrive in the markets.

The general public has been advised to immediately report any instances of black marketing or profiteering involving essential commodities to their local Chief Supply Officer or Supply Officer for prompt action.
