Bhubaneswar, Dec 1:Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Odisha Assembly on Monday that 18 cases of harassment against women personnel in the state police force were registered between 2023 and September 2025.

In a written statement, he noted that stringent legal action has been taken, with 62 accused individuals arrested in connection with these incidents.

According to Majhi, cases were reported from Balasore, Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD), Cuttack Rural, Sundargarh, Rourkela, Boudh, Bolangir, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, and Rayagada.

Outlining the measures adopted to ensure the safety and security of women working in police stations and offices, the Chief Minister said that every instance of violence against women personnel is treated as a special report case, investigated thoroughly, and monitored by senior district officers.

He added that the formation of Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) at all police stations and office establishments has been made mandatory under the POSH Act. Regular briefings and sensitisation programmes on conduct rules and workplace norms are also being conducted for staff.

Majhi further stated that many police premises have been equipped with comprehensive CCTV coverage, along with necessary infrastructure and welfare facilities. Women personnel are provided gender sensitisation training, along with access to separate restrooms and toilet facilities to ensure a secure working environment.

Additionally, strict anti-harassment policies, maternity and childcare benefits, and robust grievance redressal mechanisms are in place across police stations and other offices of the department, he said.
