Bhubaneswar, Jul 18: The Crime Branch has intensified its probe into the tragic death of FM College student Soumyashree Bisi by questioning a key eyewitness, Jyotiprakash Biswal, who is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Jyotiprakash, who sustained serious burn injuries while trying to save Soumyashree during her self-immolation attempt, was interrogated by a two-member team from the Crime Branch. The officers spoke to him for over an hour in the Plastic Surgery Department to understand the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
The team also consulted with the doctors treating Jyotiprakash to assess his medical condition. He is reported to have suffered severe burns on his face, hands, and lungs while attempting the rescue.
Jyotiprakash’s statement is considered critical in helping investigators reconstruct the exact circumstances surrounding Soumyashree’s death. His brave effort to save the victim has drawn widespread admiration from the public.
However, the State government has come under fire for allegedly failing to provide timely medical support to Jyotiprakash. As his condition remains serious, his father, Sanatan Biswal, has appealed to the government for financial aid and proper medical care for his son.
