Contract killing plot busted in Cuttack, three arrested

Cuttack, April 15: A sensational contract killing plot targeting a book trader has been busted by Markat Nagar police, leading to the arrest of three persons. Police said the accused had allegedly struck a deal worth ₹1.5 lakh to eliminate the businessman and had even paid ₹50,000 in advance to the hired killer.

However, in a shocking turn of events, the intended target escaped, while another individual became the victim of a brutal attack.

During the investigation into the attempted murder case, police uncovered the larger conspiracy behind the incident. The arrested accused include the alleged mastermind Chandan Bhol, who is said to have hatched the plot due to business rivalry, along with Shishir Jena and Rajesh Nayak.

Shishir Jena reportedly posed as a social worker in Bhubaneswar and runs a de-addiction centre. Earlier, another accused, Rakesh Behera, had also been arrested in connection with the case.

Police have seized a car, a motorcycle and a sharp weapon from the accused. All three have been forwarded to court.

The case came to light after a man was attacked by unidentified miscreants in Sector-6 under Markat Nagar police limits. Further probe revealed the chilling contract killing conspiracy, officials said.
