Bengaluru, June 1: Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge has urged the BJP-led central government to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor, highlighting that even Pakistan has already held discussions on the matter in its Parliament.

Speaking to the media, Kharge emphasized the need for national unity and cautioned against politicizing issues related to national security. “The entire nation stands with our armed forces. There must be unity on matters of national importance, and our focus should be on defeating our enemies,” he said.

Indirectly criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge advised against using Operation Sindoor for political gain. “This is not the time for self-praise. We must speak responsibly and only after understanding the full picture. Matters of national security should not be used for electioneering,” he said, adding that all leaders should maintain silence on sensitive issues until official reports are released.

Kharge questioned the Prime Minister’s continued commentary on the operation, saying, “PM Modi had earlier claimed that he gave full freedom to the armed forces. If that’s the case, why is he making repeated statements? There’s no need for self-glorifying speeches. We have suggested convening Parliament for a serious discussion. Even Pakistan has done so. No one here is speaking against the nation.”

The Congress party has been demanding a special session of Parliament to deliberate on both the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the subsequent Operation Sindoor. The operation involved precision strikes by India on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 deaths, including that of one Nepali national.

A day earlier, Kharge reiterated the demand for a special session, accusing the government of misleading the country and ignoring international developments. He criticized Prime Minister Modi for focusing on personal political gain rather than addressing statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge also referenced comments made by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in a recent interview in Singapore, and called for an independent expert committee to conduct a thorough review of India’s defence preparedness.

“There are serious questions that need answers, especially in light of the CDS's remarks. These can only be addressed if Parliament is convened immediately. The Modi government has misled the public. As the fog of war begins to lift, transparency and accountability are more important than ever,” Kharge stated.
