Conditions favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 21: The IMD said conditions were favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon in Odisha on Thursday after a 10-day lull bringing relief to several parts that were reeling under hot weather conditions.

Odisha has received around 50 per cent deficient rainfall than normal this monsoon season – 57.4 mm rainfall has been recorded between June 1 and 20 in the state.

As many as 26 districts out of 30 have received deficient rainfall while situation in 10 districts is very critical due to intense heatwave conditions.

"Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Northwest Bay of Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar," the IMD said. 

Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat State, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, some parts of Jharkhand, some more parts of Bihar and some parts of East Uttar Pradesh during next 3-4 days, it added.
