ultiple cracks have recently appeared in the Meghanada Pacheri, the imposing boundary wall of the Puri Jagannath Temple, sparking worries about the structural safety of the 12th-century shrine.

Reports indicate that wastewater from the Ananda Bazaar within the temple complex is seeping through these cracks, leading to patches of algae forming on the wall's surface.

A temple servitor noted that water leakage has been an issue since 2021, yet no repair efforts have been initiated by the administration.

Devotees and servitors have expressed their concerns regarding the wall's condition and emphasized the urgency of repairs.

In response, Arabinda Padhee, Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), acknowledged the situation. He confirmed that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and technical teams have assessed the wall, and essential restoration work will begin shortly.

"We are investigating the reason behind the cracks. The ASI is preparing for repairs and damage control, but we will investigate why these cracks have appeared on the wall. We suspect that some restricted work may have been carried out, which was prohibited by the ASI," Pruthwiraj Harichandan, state Law Minister, said.
