New Delhi, April 8: Delhi High Court on Monday stayed conviction of former union minister Dilip Ray in coal scam case allowing him to contest the upcoming elections.
Ray is likely to contest from from Rourkela Assembly constituency on BJP ticket.
Ray on Friday had urged the Delhi High Court to stay his conviction by a trial court in a case pertaining to irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand coal block in 1999.
He said he wishes to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the Odisha legislative Assembly polls.
The trial court had on October 6, 2020, convicted Ray for offences punishable under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) of the IPC as well as provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years with a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
