Cuttack, June 17: In a proactive measure to curb the potential outbreak of diarrhoea in the city, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Monday launched an extensive food safety drive, targeting eateries in and around the Cuttack Railway Station.
Officials from the Food Safety Department conducted surprise inspections at multiple hotels and food stalls. During the operation, more than 20 kilograms of stale food were seized and destroyed. Authorities also sealed a hotel found operating without a valid license.
The drive is part of a larger campaign aimed at ensuring public health safety amid rising concerns of water- and food-borne diseases. Prior to this, similar inspections were carried out in areas including Buxi Bazaar, Dolamundai, and Ranihat.
In addition to the food inspections, samples from over 10 bottled water brands sold in the city were collected for quality testing. Officials stated that special focus will be placed on fast-food outlets, which will be kept under continuous surveillance.
Public awareness efforts have also been ramped up, with loudspeaker announcements being made across the city to educate residents on diarrhoea prevention and safe food practices.
CMC Commissioner Ananya Charan Patra confirmed the developments, adding that the operation was carried out under the supervision of City Health Officer Dr. Satyabrata Mahapatra and Food Safety Officer Rashmita Behera.
