
Konark, Sept 20: In observance of International Coastal Cleanup Day, a large-scale beach cleaning and awareness campaign was organized today at Chandrabhaga Beach, under the theme "Clean Beach, Healthy Life", with a focus on promoting safe and sustainable coastal environments.
The event was jointly conducted by the Konark Wildlife Division and the State Pollution Control Board, drawing attention to the growing concern of marine pollution and its harmful effects on both the environment and marine life.
Gracing the occasion as chief guests were Sudarsan Dehuri, Officer of the Konark Wildlife Division, Biswanath Khilar, Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Pranab Kumar Chand, Executive Officer of Konark NAC. The dignitaries highlighted the urgent need for collective action in preserving beach ecosystems, stating that increasing pollution levels are endangering marine biodiversity and human health alike.
"Plastic waste poses a serious threat to marine life. A clean ocean is vital for a healthy life. Keeping our beaches clean will not only protect the environment but also boost tourism," said the speakers.
The cleanup drive saw enthusiastic participation from students of various local schools, who actively took part in removing litter from the beach. The event was coordinated by noted social worker Ramakrishna Mohanty, with full operational support from the staff of the Konark Wildlife Division.
Organizers stressed the importance of continued public awareness and community involvement in preserving Odisha's pristine coastline for future generations.
