Berhampur, May 28: A cultural performance based on the “Mahabharat” during a village festival turned violent after a clash broke out between two groups in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday night. The incident took place at Markandi village under the jurisdiction of Golanthara police station.
According to reports, two Mahabharata drama troupes were performing near the ODRP Colony as part of the ongoing Thakurani Yatra celebrations in the village. During the programme, an argument reportedly erupted between two groups of villagers over an unspecified issue.
The verbal altercation soon escalated into a violent clash, with both groups allegedly attacking each other using stones and sticks. More than 10 people sustained injuries in the incident.
All the injured persons were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
After receiving information about the incident, police personnel from Golanthara police station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. An investigation into the clash is currently underway.
