Jajpur, June 14: The health crisis in Jajpur district has intensified as cases of cholera and diarrhea continue to rise. While the situation had shown signs of improvement, fresh cases are still being reported, with several new patients admitted to hospitals across the district. Out of 41 samples tested so far, eight have been confirmed positive for cholera.
In response to the outbreak, the Jajpur Municipality has stepped up health and safety measures, launching a crackdown on eateries suspected of serving unhygienic food. A joint inspection team recently raided a hotel near Medical Square, where stale and contaminated food — including cooked chicken, mutton, and fish — was discovered.
Following the seizure, the spoiled food items were destroyed by burying them at various locations to prevent further health hazards. The hotel has since been sealed by municipal authorities.
The inspection team comprised the Municipal Executive Officer, Health Inspector, Food Safety Officer, and other civic staff. Officials confirmed that the hotel had faced multiple complaints in the past regarding the sale of stale food.
Acting on those longstanding allegations, the municipality conducted the raid on Saturday, sealing the establishment as a precautionary and punitive measure amid growing public health concerns.
