Chief Engineer Baikuntha Nath Sarangi arrested by Odisha Vigilance in disproportionate assets case

Bhubaneswar, May 31: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Odisha Vigilance today arrested Sri Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, Chief Engineer (Plan Roads), Rural Works Department, Odisha, Bhubaneswar, in connection with a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case. The arrest follows extensive raids conducted across multiple locations linked to the senior official.
A case (Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.14/2025) has been registered against Sarangi, who will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
During the course of the investigation, Vigilance officials unearthed assets grossly disproportionate to Sarangi’s known sources of income. The seized assets include:
Cash amounting to over ₹2.56 crore
Two multi-storeyed buildings and two flats
Seven high-value plots
Bank deposits worth ₹1.5 crore
Investments in shares, mutual funds, and insurance policies amounting to ₹2.7 crore
Over 1.141 kg of gold
15 imported luxury wristwatches
Authorities revealed that Sarangi failed to satisfactorily account for the massive wealth discovered during the searches.
Odisha Vigilance confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further action will follow based on emerging evidence.
