Bhubaneswar, Sep 21: The Odisha Vigilance today arrested Chief Engineer N. V. Harihara Rao for possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 177% of his known sources of income.
The vigilance arrested N. V. Harihara Rao, Chief Engineer serving at the office of Chief Construction Engineer, Rural Works Circle in Balasore after conducting house searches today.
During house searches, movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed in the name of Rao and his family members, said the Vigilance in a statement.
Properties of Rao:
1) One double storeyed building with area 2100 Sqft. over plot No. 4592 at Bhabinipur, Berhampur
2) One building with area 3000 Sqft. over plot No.284, at Patrapada, Bhubaneswar
3) One 3-BHK Flat with area approx 1200 Sqft. located at Spectrum Green Apartment Flat No.205, 1st Floor, Baidyanathpur, Kamapalli, Berhampur
4) 3 suspected benami flats at Bhubaneswar and Berhampur. Ownership is being verified
5) 5 high value homestead plots including 3 in Bhubaneswar, 1 in Berhampur and 1 in Badagumula, Ganjam
6) Cash Rs.46.45 Lakhs unearthed during search from house of his brother-in-law at Berhampur. Brother-in-law of Sri Rao is working as Govt. Doctor at Berhampur Jail. Source of such huge cash unearthed from the house of his brother-in-law is being verified
7) Deposits/Investments worth Rs.3.77 Crores
8) Gold ornaments weighing 510 gms& Silver 300 gms
9) 1 four wheeler & 1 two wheeler
10) Household articles worth Rs.15 Lakhs
After thorough search, N. V. Harihara Rao was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 177% in excess of his known sources of income. This excludes the 3 benami flats and huge cash of Rs 45.45 lakhs which are under verification, and which may further raise the amount of disproportionate assets, said the Vigilance.
