Raipur, May 27: As part of special packages to the Naxals who laid down their arms for good and the Naxal-affected families, the Chhattisgarh government has launched special rehabilitation initiatives for them under the PMAY scheme.
It has been rolled out on Tuesday from the Dantewada district wherein as many as 38 beneficiaries were given permanent pucca houses.
The foundation-laying ceremony for these homes was held in Jhoriabadam village panchayat, located in the Geedam development block.
Among the beneficiaries is Chhotu Mandvi, a surrendered Naxalite who joined the movement in 2015 and laid down arms in 2020. He expressed gratitude to the state government for helping him come to the mainstream.
Another beneficiary, Manu Mandavi, who once supplied goods to Naxalites and surrendered in 2020, was also benefited under the scheme
Speaking at the event, Dantewada district Collector Kunal Dudawat said the housing initiative was part of a targeted campaign to support families impacted by insurgency.
"Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a special campaign was launched for the Naxal-affected families and all the families were allotted houses after due surveys conducted by the district officials.
It will be an impetus for other left-wing activists to come surrender and live in the mainstream, the Collector added.
