On Saturday, Om Birla, accompanied by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, visited the sacred Jagannath Temple in Puri under tight security. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by Dr. Arvind Padhee, along with the District Collector and Superintendent of Police.
The visit began after the dignitaries freshened up at the Circuit House and proceeded to the Simhadwar of the temple. At first, Om Birla offered prayers at the Arun Stambha and Patitapabana, before entering the temple premises. There, he had darshan of Lord Kashi Vishwanath, ascended the seven sacred steps and finally had a glimpse of the presiding deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra—on the Ratna Singhasan.
After completing the temple parikrama, he also offered prayers to Goddess Mangala, Goddess Bimala, and Goddess Mahalaxmi, before partaking in the sacred Mahaprasad.
The Speaker described the experience as deeply spiritual and joyful. He stated that he prayed to Lord Jagannath for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the entire nation and the world.
He was accompanied by Puri MP Sambit Patra, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabinarayan Nayak, and Rajya Sabha MP Subhashish Khuntia.
This symbolic inclusion of the Rath Yatra chariot wheel in Parliament is expected to be a powerful representation of India’s civilizational values, spiritual continuity, and devotion to cultural preservation.
