New Delhi, May 10: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately convene an all-party meeting and call a special session of Parliament in the wake of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, which includes halting all military actions across land, sea, and air.

Ramesh emphasized the need for national unity in addressing serious security concerns, including the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. He argued that the government must take political parties into confidence and foster a collective response to the evolving situation.

“In view of the unprecedented announcements from Washington, DC, there is now a need, more than ever before, for the PM to chair an all-party meeting and take the political parties into confidence. A special session of Parliament should be convened to discuss the events of the last eighteen days, beginning with the brutal Pahalgam terror attacks and the way forward, and to demonstrate a collective resolve,” Ramesh posted on X.

As part of the de-escalation efforts, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) had contacted his Indian counterpart. Both sides agreed to cease all military activity across all domains, effective from 5:00 PM IST.

Misri added that directives have been issued to enforce the ceasefire, and another round of DGMO-level discussions is scheduled for May 12 at noon.
