New Delhi, Aug 21: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sub-area Manager of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Rampur in Jharsuguda district, Odisha, along with a private associate, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe, officials said on Thursday.

According to investigators, the official, posted at the Hirakud Bundia Mines under Rampur Sub-area, had allegedly sought ₹30,000 from a complainant through the private individual in exchange for help in a pending departmental enquiry. The demand was later negotiated to ₹20,000 as the first instalment.

Acting on a complaint, the CBI registered a case on August 20 and set a trap. The private person was caught red-handed while accepting ₹20,000 on behalf of the MCL manager. The Sub-area Manager was subsequently apprehended after receiving the amount from his associate.
